An occupational pension scheme is contracted-in to the State Second Pension (S2P) when its members and the employer pay the full, contracted-in rate of National Insurance (NI) contributions.

The NI contributions entitle the member to the additional State Second Pension (previously State Earnings Related Pension (SERPS)) at State Pension Age.
