The Trustee is regarded as 'data controller' of personal information about you and processes personal information to:
• Make calculations and provide information to you
• Pay benefits where appropriate
• Provide statistical or reference information about the Plan.
These may involve passing on your personal information to the Plan’s professional advisers and other third parties.
Combined Pension Forecasting
Each year, the Trustee applies to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to obtain details of your state pension which will be included in your annual Pension Benefit Statement. The information that will be provided to the DWP is:
• Surname or family name
• Forenames
• Sex
• Date of birth
• National Insurance Number
The DWP will then be able to tell us about:
• The state pension you have earned so far
• What your state pension is likely to be when you retire
• The age at which you can receive your state retirement pension
If you don’t want to receive this information in your Statement or you object to the Trustee obtaining it, you must tell us. Please send a note to Pension Services and your details will not be included in the application to the DWP (go to the Contact Us page).
National Fraud Initiative
The Trustee takes part in the Audit Commission’s ‘National Fraud Initiative’ every two years. If you leave IBM, data about you will be included with all deferred members and will be compared with the national death register to identify when a member has died and the Trustee has not been informed.
